In program mode (P), the camera sets optimal shutter speed and aperture combination. The aperture priority mode (A), lets you choose aperture and the camera sets shutter speed. Shutter priority mode (S) you choose shutter speed, the camera sets aperture. Or take total control and use manual mode (M), where you choose both the aperture and shutter speed.
